For its second year, the North Shore Taco 5K will be timed, as Celebrate Highwood decided to merge their other two runs into one big event. “We never used to offer a timed run,” says Eric Falberg, president of Celebrate Highwood and Highwood Alderman. “Last year we combined all of our runs into one which allowed us to afford a timing company, so runners of any level (or walkers) had the opportunity to get out in the great outdoors with family and friends (and dogs) and raise money for a great cause.”

Proceeds from the North Shore Taco Run will directly benefit Nuestro Josselyn, ensuring that essential resources continue to reach those who need them most. Josselyn is a certified community mental health center for northeastern Illinois, offering affordable, effective mental health services including therapy, psychiatry, case management, employment support, and specialized youth programs to nearly 8,000 low-income Chicagoland residents in 300 communities. Nuestro Josselyn’s programming in Highwood offers services specifically for the Latino Community.

“Every bit of support is not just appreciated, it's vital for Nuestro Josselyn's ongoing success and our ability to provide crucial mental health services to our community,” says Pablo Alvarez, chair of Josselyn’s board of directors who also serves as a trustee at Moraine Township and school counselor at Highland Park High School. “I've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of Josselyn’s commitment to supporting our community's mental health. Nuestro Josselyn, our Latino Community Center in Highwood, stands as a cornerstone in this endeavor, providing emotional, educational, and resources to support the Latino community.”

“In keeping with Celebrate Highwood’s mission of giving back to local charities, we are honored to help raise much needed funds and awareness of Nuestro Josselyn,” says Falberg. “Our Celebrate Highwood events are powerful – they bring people together and create a sense of community which offers a great opportunity for Nuestro Josselyn to spread the word about their services.”
